BIO

Nora Chellew is a multidisciplinary artist born and based in Brooklyn. She received her B.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Sculpture with a Concentration in Sustainability & Social Practice from The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. Chellew's work is primarily sculptural, with interventions of text and passive performance. She has shown her work at Spencer Brownstone, NYC; FiveMyles, Brooklyn; Spillway Collective, Philadelphia; and Phoenix Athens, Greece. In 2021, Chellew was the recipient of a N.Y.F.A. City Artist Corps Grant. Outside of her practice, Nora produces live performance and moonlights as a fabricator for other artists.

STATEMENT
“My work combines sculpture, installation, and original text. My aim is to create a space of displaced vestiges, where humor and decay are welcome. I conserve my pieces in accordance with their material ingredients and researched references. Drawing on the aesthetics of archiving, I treat titles and medium lists as integral parts of my work. I am inspired by: cataloging practices, worlding theory, set design, SFX craft, camp horror, chimeric folklore, queer history, Catholic mysticism, object power, carbon dating, ecological processes, climate catastrophe, and therapeutic tactics.” /NC-2024
